Layered Light

Crafting Atmosphere Through Design & Technology

Course Overview

Light Changes Everything. Lighting influences far more than visibility. It shapes atmosphere, reveals materials, supports architecture, affects comfort, and changes how a space is experienced throughout the day.

This course explores layered lighting, color temperature, color rendering, circadian principles, dimming, zoning, tunable lighting, controls, specification, and coordination—connecting the creative possibilities of light with the technical decisions required to execute them successfully.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how layered lighting, CCT, CRI, and circadian principles affect comfort, health, and well-being.

  • Apply best practices for lighting planning and coordination.

  • Explore dimming, zoning, and tunable/circadian lighting systems.

  • Understand how fixture and control specifications support coordination and successful implementation.
